Why should businesses care?

When it comes to tackling domestic abuse there is one very simple truth that can often be overlooked. If we only tackle the root cause of domestic abuse e.g the person using the behaviour, via punitive methods such as termination of employment or criminal justice sanctions, what happens next? Where do they go? If this is our only response then we move the issue around our society - to new employment, to new relationships which does not consider the true meaning of the word community. Instead we need a variety of options in our armoury.

A growing body of evidence shows that engaging people in this work can have multiple benefits for themselves, their current, future and ex-partners, children and the community in general. Behaviour change interventions can support people to increase their understanding of themselves and improve wellbeing.

To admit you may benefit from looking at yourself can be a big step but it shouldn’t be. A supportive workplace can play a vital step in encouraging people to engage in this support.
